I am a 32-year-old visual artist living and working in Helsinki, Finland. I graduated from Aalto University School of Art and Design in 2015 with master degree in art education. I have been painting since 2008 when I finished my vocational degree in fine & media arts in Pekka Halonen academy. In 2013-2014 I studied painting as an exchange student in Academy of Fine arts in Krakow, Poland. I have exhibited my works in solo and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad.
I have been inspired by distorted words since my mother had a stroke a few years ago. The stroke caused her aphasia; a communication disorder that affects the production and comprehension of speech. All of the sudden she was mute, unfamiliar and intimidating. Making art was my way to deal with the earth-shattering experience.
In my paintings there are words, but something has happened so they are impossible to read. Different kinds of figures, shapes and traces appear when the letters are scattered.
